Muscle Tension and the Pelvic Floor in Men AND Women

Once again, the information and knowledge that can be gained from @hubermanlabs podcast is invaluable. In this conversation with Dr. Rena Malik, you can learn how muscle tension is the major reason for Erectile Dysfunction in males and also linked to other prostate and urinary issues in both men and women.

You will also learn that the pelvic floor (a complex group of intricate muscles in and around the pelvis and hip) can suffer from the same issues as the rest of the muscles in the body of being too tight (hypertonic) OR too weak (hypotonic). It is not always a matter of strengthening, as sometimes, those muscles are already too tight and bound up together - preventing healthy movement and bloodflow. With many hypertonic muscles, finding techniques and therapies to help relieve them can positively affect bloodflow, reduce nerve tension, and allow the body to better achieve a natural state of balance.

Relieving tension in the Pelvic Floor does not have to involve invasive, uncomfortable techniques. The intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the hip and pelvic floor can effectively and safely be affected with Manual Therapy and massage by a trusted and experienced practitioner.

Building a trusting professional relationship with your bodyworker or massage therapist is vital to getting the most out of this kind of therapy. In my practice, I work hard to make every client feel welcomed and safe, regardless of gender or orientation. How you choose to live or enact your sexual life has no bearing on how I go about my treatment sessions. Every BODY is different and unique, and I listen to the needs of each individual client, and together we can find the type of treatment that works best for you!
