Spread your toes!

Yet another science and study-backed presentation on the importance of spreading your toes and feet in order to support a healthy hip and spine.
This is something I teach my clients all the time. Bringing movement and awareness to the intricate muscles of the ankles, feet and toes can bring better movement and support to the entire spine. Our feet do an extraordinary job of supporting our high-center-of-gravity mass. Think about it, all that weight in the upper body tottering on two narrow ankles and two small feet. Fortunately, our feet are designed with a divine complexity of bone and ligament structures, that are tied to muscles and fascia that run up the leg, across the knee, around and through the hip and into the spine....and yes, all the way up to the head (yes, over-simplified...for now).
So it makes perfect sense that for such a small base of support, we should have a structure that allows us as wide a reach on the ground as possible. Walking for humans was always more dynamic than it has been in the recent century, with ups, downs, terrain textures and elevation changes that we don't get much of these days. When we do it's with a pair of boots strapped to our nearly immobilzed feet.
In my sessions, we will always eventually address the feet when it comes to pain in the hip and spine, and even the shoulder and neck. After all, you can't build a stable structure atop a crooked foundation.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, once again, the esteemed Dr. Andrew Huberman, talking about feet as they relate to spinal health.
I recommend giving the whole episode a watch, but skip to 1:29:25 to hear the part about feet!
