When you are in a state of pain, physical or emotional, it is not uncommon to here people telling you to just...relax and breath.
That is often easier said than done when we are in a state of shock, or panic, or pain. Sometimes the situation will get to the point where it's so bad, we don't even know what it means to breath, or be relaxed anymore.
While I will continue to expound the positive effects of breathing, I will not passively sit there and tell you how to breath.
In my practice, with Hands-On Manual Therapy I will show you how to breath, and help your body get to a state where it can let the breath (and therefore blood, lymph, oxygen, etc.) flow with more ease. This is how your body is able to get itself back to a state of regulation.
There are many great resources for meditation and breathing exercises online. In this post I will share one of my personal favorites from Dr. Andrew Huberman.
I appreciate Dr. Huberman for his direct, effective, and incredibly thoughtful insights based on proven science. I highly recommend his podcast to any one interested in physical health and cognitive growth.
This short video is a 'meditation' which he coins "Non-Sleep Deep Rest" (NSDR). This is an extremely effective way to take 10 minutes to calm your nervous system, and lower stress and pain levels. When you come into my practice, you will experience deep pressure and movement facilitated by the principles NSDR. With hands on touch, and a focus on the breath, I am helping to bring attention to ares of restricted movement, to help significantly reduce pain levels.
Find a nice place to lie down, and try it out for yourself. Then come and book a session with Arrow//Spine!
